Gorgets were originally made of shell, then copper and in modern times silver. Gorgets were worn by warriors close to the throat to protect them in battle. During times of peace, they were worn lower on the chest.
In contemporary tribal life, gorgets are worn as formal regalia by men and women.
Also, I feel that we wear gorgets in times of “battle” when we need to stand up for our people.
The eagle is considered to be the king of the birds and can be associated with leadership.
